The short answer
Dream interpretation is not prediction and not diagnosis. This article separates what sleep research observes from what popular interpretation associates with the theme.
Dreaming about a wedding does not announce a real one. The dream tends to show up during times of commitment, decisions or change: a relationship getting serious, a friend's engagement, a big choice at work or pressure to "commit" to something. The emotion of the scene, joy, nerves or dread, usually says more than the wedding itself.

Why weddings show up
Dreams tend to follow what occupies your mind during the day, the continuity hypothesis. Planning an event, attending a wedding, scrolling engagement photos or family questions about "when are you getting married" are common triggers. If you are already married, the dream may reflect your relationship routine or an anniversary.
The most common variations
- Marrying your current partner: often reflects plans or expectations about the relationship.
- Marrying a stranger: often tied to a new commitment rather than a person.
- Marrying your ex: more about old memories and feelings; see dreaming about your ex.
- Being left at the altar or running late: a relative of lateness and exam dreams, with fear of failing at a big moment.
- Someone else's wedding: may reflect changes in a loved one's life and your place in it.
The next-day effect
Dreams about a partner can color the next day. A study of couples found that dreaming about jealousy or conflict with a partner was linked to more tension in the couple's interactions the following day. Remembering that the feeling comes from the dream, not from anything that happened, helps keep it from turning into an argument.

What popular interpretation says
In popular belief, dreaming about a wedding has been read both as good news and, in some old traditions, as a sign of difficult change, the opposite of what the dream shows. That contrast shows how much interpretation depends on culture. None of these readings has scientific proof. To learn how to look at any dream, see dream meanings according to science and culture.
